Splash Night News 2010
Once again, Splash Night, held on June 11, marked the beginning of the summer season here in the City of Meadows Place. As always, Splash Night was filled with fun, friends, and relaxation centered around our city pool. Each year, the city asks the citizens to bring canned goods for a food pantry collection. Many of our citizens demonstrated their generous spirit by bringing food donations for the Sugar Grove Church of Christ collection.
Since the town meeting held at Splash Night 2009 was such a success, the city held another town meeting at Splash Night 2010. The meeting, led by Mayor Jessup and the Council Members, featured a power point presentation to inform the citizens of the upcoming projects for Meadows Place.
Some of the activities at Splash Night included treasure hunts, an Oreo stacking contest, rubber duck fun, and always a crowd favorite, the Lifeguard Big Splash Contest. The Lifeguards divided into two teams for the contest, led by the Aquatics Director, Scot Herff. The three judges were Kelly Palash, Dan Denny, and Tracy Spiller. The first team (Splash Crew) earned 130 points and consisted of Vinnie Doina, Tyler Smith, Justin Gonzalez, Sammi Ferriera, and Connor Shaw. The second team (Epicly Wet), made up of Kristina Hickle (pool manager), Christian Kelly, Jennifer Sterner, Jacob Bravo, and Darren Hymel took the win with 135 points. Throughout the night, resident children enjoyed jumping in the foam pit and racing on the giant slip n’ slide. DJ’s Unlimited provided good music to add to the excitement. The Lifeguard staff did a terrific job of monitoring and maintaining safety during the events.
Splash Night would not be the same without our resident volunteers. John Glona, Stephen Gray, and Jim Creasser volunteered their time to provide the community with delicious hot dogs and hamburgers. Kippy Swan, Tricia Wilkins, and Janie Henley worked alongside many of the City Hall staff members including Carrie Gregg, Patty Spade, Elaine Herff, Melody Vaal and husband Randy Vaal who volunteered their time to serve the food.
The City of Meadows Place would like to offer a large thank you to our city’s engineering firm, HDR Claunch and Miller, for sponsoring the food and beverages for the second year in a row. We would also like to thank Melanie Bilobeau, who works with Heinz, for donating all of the condiments used at our event. Without our resident volunteers, Lifeguard staff, Parks Department (Monya Keenen, Terry Modeland, Laura Sterner, and Geno Sanchez), Police Department (Officer Jerry Brownley, Officer Larry Eissler, and Chief Mike Baker), Public Works Department (Joseph French and Dan Denny), Mayor and Council, and City Hall staff, Splash Night could not have been such a great success. Thanks to all who dedicated their time to making Splash Night a memorable and exciting event for our community. Splash Night is always held on the second Friday of June, so mark your calendars and come celebrate with us at Splash Night 2011.
